robersonROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE)- The first day of kindergarten can be scary for any child, but not like it was for one New Mexico boy. The autistic boy had a gun pointed at him on his way to school.

Jeffery William knew it was going to be a transition taking his 5-year-old son Jaxon to his first day of kindergarten.

Jaxon’s dad thought he would do something special for the occasion.

“Since his routine is, so you know, different and changed because of the getting up early for school that we decided to get him his favorite breakfast, ” said William.

That breakfast was a sausage biscuit with milk from McDonalds. The family enjoyed their food in the McDonalds parking lot, but they were met by an unwanted visitor when they tried to leave.

“A young man pulled up in front of my vehicle and blocked me off and started calling me names and threatened to fight me and as we exchanged unpleasentries he pulled out a loaded glock pistol, ” said William.

It all happened right in front of his wife and Jaxon.

William called 9-1-1 and police caught up with the suspect, 24-year-old Alexander Roberson. Roswell police were able to quickly find Roberson and arrest him for three counts of aggravated assault and negligent use of a firearm.

“He’s not on the street to do this to anybody else. And hopefully once it’s all resolved in court, he’ll have time to think about it and what he did, ” said William.

William said Jaxon kept him calm through the ordeal. He told his father to take a deep breath and count down from five; William says that is what he tells Jaxon to keep him calm.

“That was just special to me, ” said William.

The family says despite the crazy morning, Jaxon’s first day of kindergarten was excellent with good reports from all his teachers.

The suspect has now bonded out of jail.
