A breakfast diner called Yolk is taking its first crack at Texas by opening a restaurant in Dallas’ One Arts Plaza on Jan. 20.
“Compared to everywhere else in the country, Texas is booming, ” said Taki Kastanis, founder/owner of the Chicago-based Yolk. “It seemed to be a fantastic market.” The new restaurant will be Yolk’s only location outside of the Midwest.
Yolk is a “new spin on a diner, ” Kastanis says — somewhere between a Denny’s and a hotel breakfast. The 60-some item menu contains mostly egg dishes such as frittatas, omelets, benedicts, scramblers and egg sandwiches, though other breakfast items such as French toast and biscuits and gravy are options. And then there’s lunch: burgers, wraps and salads.
Kastanis says his other restaurants generally cater to business breakfasts and lunches on weekdays and more of a brunch crowd on the weekends. (“Brunch!” said everyone in nearby Uptown.)
“It’s always bustling. It’s loud; we’re not a fine-dining place, ” he says of Yolk. “You can hear the plates and the chatter in the booths.”
Yolk will be the most casual restaurant of its One Arts Plaza neighbors. Also open in that complex are Jorge’s Tex-Mex Cafe, Asian restaurant Tei-An and American restaurant Proof + Pantry.
Breakfast and lunch at Yolk will be served 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends.
