Oatmeal is a natural treatment for calming itchy skin. The antioxidant & anti-inflammatory avenanthramides are what soothe the skin, and work best when the oats are as unprocessed as possible. Cook up a bowl of the breakfast staple (choose steel-cut or rolled over the quick-cooking and pre-packaged varieties), rub a little on your bug bites in between spoonfuls. For all-over itchiness like poison ivy, add some dry oats to a warm bath and soak for 30 minutes.
Bananas are not only delicious in smoothies and a great source of potassium, but the peel packs an instant itch-stopping punch. Rub the inside of the banana peel on a bug bite or rash, and the tannins will soothe the scratchiness within seconds.
After a few days spent in the woods of Vermont, I tried both remedies this morning. The oatmeal took a little longer to work, but both relieved my itchy bites.

I knew exactly how she felt when I first saw the movie. Love all the classic scenes that have been references, affectionately parodied, etc. But this exchange is going to follow me. Speaking of John Hughes, why didn’t I think of him in the director post? It still hasn’t really hit me that he has passed away. His films were basically my childhood.
