Kanela Breakfast Club, located at 500 N Lakeshore Drive in Streeterville, is now open. Kanela is a breakfast, lunch and contemporary brunch concept that features a sweet and savory menu created by Executive Chef Don Penza (Municipal Bar + Dining Co., Frontier). This is the fourth Kanela to open in Chicago with previous locations in Lakeview, Old Town and Wicker Park. The newest Kanela is owned by restaurateur Chris Lardakis and partner Alexi Giannoulias (former Illinois State Treasurer).
Serving the finest and freshest ingredients available, Kanela opens daily beginning at 6 a.m. and offers coffee and lattes to-go. Exclusive to the new Streeterville location is fresh baked donuts, cookies, brownies, pastries and pies from Bang Bang Pie Shop. The location also features a full liquor bar with blood marys and mimosas as well as a fresh squeezed juice bar with smoothies.The new Kanela in Streeterville mimics the look and feel of the other locations.
The Streeterville restaurant mimics the look and feel of the other Kanela locations and is warm and cozy with deep earth tones and dark wood accents. Vintage chandeliers, brown leather banquettes and red oak tables give the restaurant a modish charm. The space also has diner-style counter seating surrounded by white subway tiles with walnut cladding covering the walls. There is seating for approximately 90 people as well as a patio with a capacity for 42 guests. Pay-for street parking will be available. All Kanela locations features free Wi-Fi, making it the perfect spot to dine while working.
Created by Executive Chef Don Penza, the menu is similar to that of the Lakeview, Old Town and Wicker Park locations featuring seasonal brunch favorites and Greek specialties made from scratch in-house. New summer menu items include Chicken and Waffles, Biscuits and Gravy, Nutella S'mores Waffle, Monte Cristo and Lemon Blueberry Pancakes. A kid's menu, Julius Meinl coffee and signature Kanela fresh-squeezed juices are also available.
Kanela sources its ingredients from local farms and producers including Wayne Farms (chicken) and Herburcks Farms (organic eggs) in Michigan. All fresh berries and asparagus are also sourced from independent Michigan farms. Kanela uses grass fed beef from Tallgrass Beef Company, a company founded by Chicago TV personality and anchor Bill Kurtis, which has certified farms throughout the Midwest.Kanela's Signature Bloody Mary
