Believe it or not, it’s not always time for brunch. Shouldn’t we despise brunch? It technically cheats you out of a meal. It ain’t right. Sometimes you just need bacon and eggs. Sometimes you want fancy breakfast things but you want them on the weekday. Lucky you– there are lots of DC restaurants that have dedicated breakfast menus on weekdays, or serve classic no-frills breakfast items all day. We put them into a list to make your life easier, because we want you to eat nice things.

It’s easy to get used to thinking of Ted’s as a breakfast-for-dinner spot, but breakfast all day means breakfast at breakfast, too. There’s the Big Mark’s Breakfast for those who can’t decide what they want, the Walk of Shame Burrito to cure your midweek hangover, and of course, homemade pop tarts.
U Street Cafe might be one of the only remaining cafes in DC that requires you to get up every two hours to get a new wi-fi code, but their extremely customizable breakfast makes it worth it. Here you’ll be able to order omelets with almost anything you can think of, waffles in every flavor, and the most reasonably priced cup of coffee on U Street that’s not from 7-11.
Possibly the healthiest all day breakfast option in the city, Open City has a wide variety of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free breakfast entrees. Some of the must try dishes include the Chai Tea Waffles, the OC Burrito, and the Croque Madame.
The Coupe caters to almost everyone with it’s diverse menu– skinny omelets, apple cider doughnuts, ham and cheese waffles, and even breakfast burritos make this menu one that pleases everyone at the table. The issue is choosing just one thing (but you probably don’t have to).
If you don’t care about calories and just want simple, straightforward food made with a lot of heart and a little bit of grease, this 70 year old spot might have been overlooked for too long. It’s hiding on the corner of 11th and Florida and serves up breakfast for 12 hours a day in classic diner fashion.
Don’t waste your time with the chicken and waffles offered anywhere else in DC, because Lincoln’s is one of the only places that always does it right. As if those aren’t perfect enough, their banana pancakes are equally as decadent.
Sometimes you just need bacon, eggs and a lot of potatoes, and the Diner has that. Sometimes you’re in the mood for a cajun style omelet with andouille sausage and shrimp, and the Diner has that, too. Do yourself a favor and get there before the rest of Adams Morgan wakes up.
If you don’t mind hordes of kids pre or post gaming in the AU neighborhood, Steak & Egg serves their namesakes all day long in every variation imaginable. It’s also the perfect place to eat a huge breakfast when you’re in a hurry.
His roots twelve years deep in fine dining, Chef Kyle Bailey (Birch & Barley, Churchkey), along with Buzz Bakery’s pastry chef (and Bailey’s wife) Chef Tiffany McIssac, cooked up a comfort food filled menu so down-to-earth, you could mistake it for a country food fusion place actually located down South. -Marie Formica
